Chanukah events As usual plenty was happening for all ages on Chanukah, with Chanukah Kiddushim, a magnificent tea and social arranged by the Social & Cultural Committee with participation by the Cheder children. In addition, several members of CUS, including Rabbi Wollenberg, lit candles and celebrated with the residents of Penylan House on each of the nights of Chanukah.
AJEX exhibition Thanks to our local AJEX chapter, particularly chair Doreen Jacobs, for bringing the national “Jewish Military Museum Mobilised” to Cardiff Castle, located at the Firing Line Museum of the Welsh Soldier. The exhibition highlighted the role of Jewish soldiers during both world wars and particularly the Welsh Jewish soldiers. Members of the community, including the older Cheder classes, visited the exhibition during its’ time in Cardiff.
Holocaust Memorial Day Events Events took place in Cardiff City Hall, Neath Port Talbot and Barry. This year’s Cardiff event was particularly moving, highlighting the theme of “Untold Stories” and was well attended by the Jewish Community. Rabbi Wollenberg read the traditional memorial prayer. CUS members were also invited to hear visiting Rabbi Aron Hier, speak about anti-Semitism and challenges facing Jewish students on Campus. Rabbi Hier, who is the Director of Campus Outreach for the Simon Wiesenthal Centre in LA, also spoke at the Barry preview of a new film about Winston Churchill, commissioned by the Wiesenthal Centre, also well attended by community members. |
