We are a vibrant, friendly, and highly active traditional orthodox community, located in Cardiff, Wales, UK.

We hold services on most weekdays and over Shabbat.  Our Minyamin services are traditional with an informal, family atmosphere.  On alternative Shabbatot we have a synagogue choir which performs contemporary music under the able direction of our choirmaster. Listen to the choir singing tunes from their CD by visiting the choir's page.

  • We have kosher food available at various locations, and a fully-functioning mikveh and keilim mikveh.

  • Kashrut Alerts from the London Beth Din
Bulmers Original Cider is now NOT KOSHER
Southern Comfort, listed in The Really Jewish Food Guide 2008 as Parev is now Dairy. Old stock should also be treated as DAIRY.

All varieties of M & M's listed in The Really Jewish Food Guide 2008 (Choco, Cripsy, Peanut) are now NOT KOSHER

Sunpride Pineapple & Coconut Juice contains skimmed milk and cream and is therefore DAIRY

  • We have a thriving twice-weekly Chedar and regular activities for children.

  • KINDERGARTEN - The possibility of a Jewish kindergarten in Cardiff is at present being explored. This would be a great addition to Jewish facilities in Cardiff. It would be cross-communal. To help with planning, if you have or know of a Jewish child under the age of 5 who might attend a Jewish nursery, please let Rabbi or Mrs Wollenberg know. This will help those involved to gauge the demand there might be for such a nursery, and to make the case for it.

  • Major Adult Education iniTIative

These days “life long learning” is a buzzword and the Jewish community should be no different.  Jewish Education should be a life-long endeavour and we will be providing a number of programmes and activities to make sure that is truly the case.

Keep an eye on your letterbox!

  • DAILY MINYANIM - SERVICES

Morning minyanim are held daily, Sundays at 8:30am and Monday-Friday at 7:15am

Tea and coffee are served every morning and full breakfast on Friday mornings

If you have a Yahrzeit, are saying Kaddish, or simply want to daven, or feel like helping to support the community by ensuring a minyan, please come along

The Shul has spare Tefillin and there is always somebody who can help guide you putting them on if you need.

Maariv is also held daily at 7:30pm

  • We publish a newsletter several times a year, called FOCUS, with information about all the activities and events taking place in the shul.  Our shul also runs many different social and cultural events for all age groups as well as adult and child education.  You will find information about all of these on the links in the left margin.

  • Please read this important messsage from the BOARD OF DEPUTIES

  • IMPORTANT NOTICE: Due to the Data Protection Act, hospitals and other health institutions no longer automatically notify us when a Jewish patient is admitted; therefore if you or somebody you know is admitted and wishes to be visited, they need to specifically request that the institution make contact with the Rabbi or Shul Office, otherwise we will not find out.

  • To listen to Rabbi Wollenberg being interviewed on the subject of anti-Semitism enter here.

  • IMPORTANT REQUEST FROM THE
    CHEVRA KADISHA

    Dear Friends,
As Chairman of the Chevra Kaddishah, the Holy Brotherhood,  it has been my sad duty to oversee the proper preparation and burial of those gentlemen whom we have lost from the community during this past year. There is, likewise, a dedicated group of women who perform the same mitzvah for those ladies who have passed away. We need new members to join us and assist in this task of paying last respects and ensuring proper spiritual and physical preparation to those who have passed away.
If you feel you could help in this work, please contact myself or Rabbi Wollenberg privately, and we can speak with you and give you more information. Whilst writing, may I give my personal thanks to all those who have been involved in this work in the last year. Those who sew the shrouds, maintain
the cemeteries, organise funerals and are involved in one way or another with our work.

    Tony Blasebalk
    Chairman of Cardiff Chevra Kadisha

  • Sponsor the weekly Kiddush!

Did you realise that a sponsored Kiddush could also be as straightforward as  a contribution to the weekly Shul Kiddush?

For £35 you can sponsor the weekly Kiddush in honour of a special occasion, event or person of your choice .  This price includes cakes, biscuits, dips, crackers and soft drinks.  We supply the wine and you are free to provide your own choice of alcoholic drinks.

Of course you can still throw a super-duper Kiddush but for smaller occasions, what better way to mark it than by sponsoring our regular Kiddush?

For your child’s birthday (or even a ‘big kid’) why not sponsor the sweets and ice-cream for the kids, all for a £20 contribution.

For more information contact Lisa Gerson or the Shul Office.

FROM THE POSTBAG

I wanted to thank you once again for the hospitality extended to us by both the  congregation and yourselves. It was a wonderful Shabbat in a wonderful  community.

Please mention our gratitude to the community when the Kiddush sponsorship  is held. I am not sure it will be this week, but Va'era is indeed the correct  setting to speak of the special warmth of Yiddishe hospitality.

 Ron and Marcie Sheps

(Ron & Marcie visited for Shabbos and kindly sponsored a Kiddush in their absence the following week!)
